23.9% of children under 16 years old within the Scottish Borders are living in poverty according to research done by End Child Poverty Coalition, with this figure expected to be higher as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. This is a heartbreaking statistic that inevitably impacts the lives of these children - and the play resources they have access too.

Research carried out by One Parent Families Scotland reported that 50% of single parents and 63% of parents in a relationship feel lonely some of the time, with a further 22% of single parents reporting that the feel lonely most of the time.
Social isolation is a significant problem for many new parents with changes to their social relationships, finances, lifestyle, location and mental health being common factors.

Borders Sensory Hub CIC conducted an Accessing Play survey for additional needs families within the Scottish Borders which seen 81.8% of the families who took part report feeling that there was very few suitable activities or facilities in the Borders for their child.
The families reported large attendee numbers, too much noise, bright lighting, developmentally complex activities and equipment and non-understanding adult and child attendees as their reasons for feeling facilities or activities were unsuitable for their child.
